In January of 2000 Adam and Rusty Lane started buying and selling used equipment under the name of Georgia Equipment Co., Inc. They were looking for a location to expand Georgia Equipment Company's exposure as a buyer and seller.
In March 2000 they began talking with Dye Farm Equipment of Swainsboro, Ga. about buying their location as well as the Howse Distributor rights for Fla., Ga. and S. C. Dye Farm Equipment was the very first Howse distributor over 30 years ago. The deal finally went through and on March 27th, Adam and Rusty took over. Adam brought with him an established trailer dealer network of more than 7 years of work, including over 20 dealers from N.C., Ga., and S. C. Rusty was employed by Terry and Sons, Inc., a tractor dealership located in Sylvania, Ga., where he was in charge of retail sales, parts and service.
Within the first eight months of business at the new location, Adam and Rusty took the Howse distributorship to the next level, more than doubling the volume of sales by the previous owners. Howse Implement Co is very pleased by the effort and enthusiasm of Adam and Rusty.
Georgia Equipment also took on 2 new tractor lines, Tafe and Long, selling over 25 tractors within the first eight months.
In June of 2000 Rusty went to S. C. to Southeastern School of Auctioneering to begin courses to become an auctioneer. In August he passed the state auctioneers exam. This is when Lane Brothers Auctions was formed. As of September 1, 2005 Lane Brothers has held over 50 auctions with more being scheduled. They have held auctions ranging from bank forclosures to business liquidations, and estate farm sales. After paying close attention to the auction trends they realized that real estate auctions were quickly becoming the fastest growing segments of the auction industry. In November 2004 Rusty obtained his real estate license. They are looking forward to growing into the real estate auction market.
After 5 years of growth, Rusty and Adam built a huge new 15,000 sq ft building on West Meadowlake Parkway. The new place has a lot of room for growth and developement and plenty of room for people to park for the auctions.
With over 70 active dealers, and now selling many different products, Georgia Equipment is becoming one of the leading farm equipment distibutors in the southeast.
Future plan include expanding their dealer network in Fla., S. C. and Ga., and eventually becoming a nationally recognized name in the equipment and auction business.
